Douro Valley Wine Tour – Wine Venture and Boat Trip

This outing was the highlight of 6 days inPorto. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. No wonder this is a UNESCO world heritage site. The visit to the port lodge was great – very informative. It was good to be able to walk among the vines. Lunch was excellent. The boat tour was lovely. Bruno was a wonderful host. This tour has our highest recommendation.

Very nice tour. I am glad that we did not go to very large commercial vineyards. The boat ride was the highlight. Beautiful day! The drive was a bit intense. Be prepared if you get car sick.

Such a wonderful day! Ricardo and Jose were the two guides for our tour. Their love of the Douro was palpable, and they were both warm and friendly. The experiences they provided are intimate and you feel like you are getting first class treatment throughout the day.

Ricardo and Jose were amazing hosts – funny, knowledgeable and prompt. We booked this last minute and are very happy to have done so as this experience was fantastic. Would recommend this tour to family and friends.

We loved our experience touring the Douro valley with Ricardo and Jose! The combination of activities was great – the timing of the events didn’t feel rushed and I reeeeeally liked the group atmosphere that was instilled. Our group was a nice size, and that was a highlight! Jose was our driver and he conveyed so much enthusiasm. Definitely recommend strongly!

This was my first time booking an experience through AirBnB, so I was trying to keep my expectations reasonable. This day trip exceeded anything I could have imagined. Our host, Jose, was awesome, super charming and informative. The weather being absolutely perfect certainly helped, but this is an absolute must regardless if you have a few days in Porto. Could not have been happier. I’d give it 6 out of 5 stars if I could.

Absolutely a spectacular way to experience the Douro valley! This trip would have been essentially impossible to create on our own, and truly a unique view into the wine making culture/history of Portugal. Our guide, Jose, was charming, kind, knowledgeable and overall the perfect “host” for a day! He really added to the overall quality of our trip. I especially appreciated the genuinely amicable relationship between the tour company and the sites we visited- it was refreshing to know we were supporting local business while taking in the treasures of the Douro valley. Overall, the entire tour was timely, engaging, and an excellent use of our time. Would highly recommend as a comprehensive experience of the Douro valley if you only have one day to explore.

This was an amazing experience and a great value. It was well organized and filled with great information shared by passionate people. Everyone went above and beyond, from the food to the little extras like souvenir bottles of Port.

This was,a,truly unique experience to get to see the Douro Valley, taste great wines, and understand more about the culture of the region. Our hosts and guides at every step were outstanding, and taught me new things at every step. It was a once in a lifetime experience, and I recommend it to those wanting a small group, thoughtful experience

As all of the reviews have mentioned it’s completely worth your time and money. I will have this memory forever. Ricardo truly made us feel comfortable and welcome and it was a lovely little group. My suggestions are to dress warm and eat a little breakfast before you go. We were so full from lunch we did not even eat dinner.

We travel a lot, and we love local experiences! Ricardo, Jose and Bruno have created an exceptional Douro Tour! It’s money well spent! Every moment of the day exceptional! From the beautiful Mercedes Van, to the beautiful wine tours! The day is perfectly planned w viewing stops, snacks and breaks! Of course they’ve chosen exceptional family wineries to experience too! The boat tour is not to be missed! I was In Pinhao in 2003, and today in 2019, on a cloudy, rainy, 10 degree day it was still a fun experience! After that we enjoyed lunch in a private home with exceptional food & wine! In summary, our tour withT Ricardo was the reason you leave home and fly half way round the world to experience someone elses home! We cannot recommend the tour highly enough – it’s an amazing day out!!

What an absolutely incredible experience this was – I wish I could give 6 stars! We spent most of our time with Ricardo, who was extremely knowledgeable and passionate not only about the Douro Valley and its rich wine history but about Portugal history in general. We learned so much, tasted great wine & port, and spent the day in such a unique and beautiful place. The lunch was also so special, intimate, and delicious! This wasn’t something we could have done on our own, and was the highlight of our weeklong trip to Portugal. I cannot recommend it enough!!

This was a great experience! José was a great host, always smiling and very enthusiastic! You could see he was very passionate about wine and the Douro region. I would recommend this tour to anyone who would like to go to the Douro Valley and go explore some of the less touristy spots of the region. It had been on my bucket list for many years and I wasn’t disappointed! Thanks José for everything!

We had a super fun day wine tasting in the Douro Valley. Our guides Ricardo and Jose were knowledgeable and fun to spend the day with. They took us to very unique places with fabulous wine, delicious food and a relaxing boat ride on the river. I would not hesitate to go back on this day trip the next time I visit Porto.

Great day out, very special experience being in a small group, all activities were excellent. All very professional and had a caring approach with everyone.

If you are in Porto, I would definitely recommend going to Duoro Valley. It was such a unique experience to go to a place that has so much history. The landscape is spectacular and the wine, even better. The pick up location was easy to find and the drive took about an hour. Our driver was very knowledgable about Porto and was giving us a brief history lesson during the drive to Duoro. Unfortunately, it was raining so we couldn’t do the boat ride, but nonetheless the trip was well planned and my friend and I enjoyed it a a lot!

I quite enjoyed the day trip to Porto with Bruno and Jose! It was a really fun trip around the Valley, and I had a great time tasting different wines and meals throughout the trip. I would recommend not going alone as the experience will vary depending on who you will be grouped with. In my case, I ended being the only English speaker in a Portoguese-speaking group – this made it a bit hard for me to follow along. I think it’s something to be mindful of given that the tour groups will be split up and not everyone will go on the same route. That being said, Bruno was very aware of the situation and did his best to accommodate given the circumstances, which I appreciated. Beyond that, it’s well worth the effort to take this trip and explore the Valley! I’ll certainly do it again with a group the next time I’m around.

A wonderful day. We spit into smaller groups, so it was 7 of us with Bruno. He and Ricardo made us feel very welcome from the start. Great energy. A super day!

Jose was a wonderful guide! He was very genuine, great personality, and answered all our questions! This trip was a highlight on our vacation in Portugal! We loved the wineries, the authentic Portuguese lunch, and the sailing tour! Highly Recommend!

Great experience with Jose. He was very open, and was constantly actively working to fulfill every demand that was asked. He also took care of the group dynamic which was very pleasent. An experience that was worth the higher price than average. You’ll be surprised by the extra’s.

Our small group enjoyed many laughs together while tasting several different wines and ports. My favorite part was having lunch at Casa Do Bucheiro and getting to meet the family running the winery. We had a great day at Douro Valley for the wine tour with Bruno and Jose. Everything went perfectly smooth. A lot of information was shared. The Douro Valley is so spectacular and the Tour is well organized. Wine was good, Port was good and the food was awesome. We had a great time and highly recommend.

Ricardo lead such a wonderful experience through the beautiful Douro Valley. He also was very patient with me while I practiced my Portuguese! The trip provides a fun way to learn about the history and culture of the area, as well as eat and drink delicious food and wine. We loved that we went places that you could never find or go to on your own. Highly, highly recommend!!!!

Bruno provided our group of 7 with an outstanding and memorable day trip to the gorgeous Douro Valley. From beginning to end it was perfect. Bruno made us feel welcome and it is obvious he has extensive knowledge of the area & loves his work! The tour car is safe and comfortable, the port tour & tasting, boat trip and local restaurant lunch is something we couldn’t have organized on our own without a lot of pre-planning. Highly recommend!

This adventure feels really special thanks to the chemistry of the hosts with their winery contacts as well as with the guests on the tour. The small groups in the van make it a more intimate experience and allows the guests to get to know one another and leave as friends at the end of the day. Each stop was perfectly timed. The winemakers were engaging and passionate about their product without ever feeling like you were getting a sales pitch. Perhaps I’m jaded from my tours at home when you leave a winery feeling like you are expected to purchase something. On this tour I never felt that pressure or expectation. It was more like a friend sharing their passion for their wine. Our hosts on the boat ride were equally engaging, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Douro River area. Despite the drizzle we had an awesome time. Lunch was a fantastic experience also…from the beautiful home to the taste of the food and wine. Our hosts engaged all the guests in conversation and made it feel like we were at a dinner party in their home. This tour had come highly recommended from a friend who had done it a few months ago so I hoped it would live up to my expectations and it actually exceeded them. The key to the event is the hosts and the way they encourage a sense of community among everyone involved in the tour.

Nothing stands out about a place to me more than when I get to meet people who truly love it and are proud to share it with others. While we didn’t get to meet Ricardo, our guides Jose and Bruno (as well as the hosts where we visited) are truly passionate about Portugal, the Duoro Valley and wine! It was a lovely day and we enjoyed every bit. The meal, wine and boat were especially great, along with super safe driving and really comfortable vans. Highly recommend!

His knowledge about vine and history of region was very high. Scenery looked great from the boat. Vine and food were delicious. We had an excellent time in the Douro Valley with Bruno as our guide and enjoyed meeting Ricardo as well. Bruno was very personable and knowledgable about the region and the food/ wine we sampled. There was plenty of port and wines to enjoy throughout the day. I felt that I learned a lot during the tour, and really enjoyed my time. Believe all of these positive reviews, they are so true! This is a tour that you will not regret taking!

We just finished our wine tour on Easter Sunday. It was a lovely day out. The weather was perfect, our guide was friendly, genuine and knowledgeable, the boat tour was scenic and relaxing and the wineries we visited were welcoming and interesting. The second winery with the home cooked lunch was particularly great! Do this tour. You won’t regret it. Thanks, guys!

We spent an amazing day with Bruno. During the day he entertained us with many historical facts and storys from the Douro region. The two winery visits, the tastings and also the delicious lunch were extraordinary. We had a lot of fun and can highly recommend this professionally organized trip!

We took the Douro Valley tour with Bruno, it was fantastic from the start of the tour until the end, Bruno kept us informed about the sights we were seeing along the way and coordinated the access to some great smaller wineries that did not seem to be hosting large groups of tourists, the lunch prepared at one of the wineries was fantastic and Bruno helped see everyone was well taken care off. This tour is well worth the time and money!

Ricardo and Bruno were great. It was evident that they wanted each guest to have an enjoyable experience. Communication before and the meet up were very easy. The tour was full with 14 pax, but they split in into two groups for most of the tour. The trek out to the Douro Valley was a bit long, but with beautiful scenery. The history of Portugal and Douro wines was provided along the way. I have to say the first winery fell below expectations. The wine was mediocre and the winery representative just seemed to go through the motions of a tour and tasting. As someone that has done several wine tours, I did not find it unique. The next winery was far better both in quality of wine and service. We had the winery to ourselves and were served a multi-course, home cooked lunch with wine pairings. The winery itself was centuries old and Ricardo provided the tour and history. Next, we had a boat tour on the Douro River. It was raining at the time, so we were offered the option of taking the tour or visiting a third winery. We decided to go with the boat as a group and I am glad we did. I really appreciated being provided with options. The boat ride was beautiful and relaxing The captains provided more history of the region while we sipped port and snacked. After the trip back, we were sent a great list of recommendations for the rest of our Porto stay. Overall, it was a great day. Bruno and Ricardo truly have the heart of hospitality. I would certainly recommend this tour for individuals wishing to visit the Douro Valley.

We really enjoyed our Douro Valley experience with Jose. The whole day was flawless and well-planned. The two wineries we visited were unique and intimate, which created a cool vibe that you couldn’t get this experience elsewhere. I’d highly recommend this tour to my friends and family who visit Porto!
